One day, one of my friends asked me:” Why are you so worried about the future? Why? Especially the far future. You don’t know what will happen tomorrow how can you be scared of something so far away?!”
But her words that touched me the most were: “You have to make your future shorter to become happier”.
Is she right? Am I too worried about something that probably will never happen? And what does it mean make your future shorter?
I’m (again) an expat mum (now of three kids), living in the other part of my known world, temporarily unemployed with the chance to plan my future as I want but no idea where to start.
What should I do?
Will my children be okay?
Will we manage to make new friends?
And what about the house? Will we find the right one? In a safe neighborhood?
I’ve got all the right ingredients to be anxious and worried about my future, also that far far away from me. Do I?
My friend’s words keep echoing in my mind though and because of my mindfulness’ lessons and my experience as a life coach I know she is right and I have to find peace in my chaotic mind. How?
Teaching and doing are two very different things but they are not opposite! They can (or better they should) live together.
So I decided to start to focus on one project at time. Focus my mind to reach a simple, short and reachable goal. Step by step (and I write them down in order).
And when I’m feeling overwhelmed, I fall back on my comfort zone and the things that calm me down: reading and writing. You have to find your comfort zone (it could be anything, everywhere, anyone..).
So wish me luck for this new beginning! I have many things to do..first and foremost make my future shorter!!
See you in the next chapter!!!
Buena suerte 🍀
